Early in his time on Nepean Council, Councillor Rick Chiarelli was founding Co-Chair of the City’s Anti-Impaired Driving Committee.
He worked with others to develop an Alcohol-Free New Year’s Eve project. The effort was so successful that is has become an annual spectacular that continues to this day and has been voted the “Best Place to be on New Year’s Eve” by CTV viewers.
While the first event entertained hundreds of people, it now attracts close to 8000 residents from all over the City of Ottawa. It remains one of Ottawa’s most successful anti-impaired driving projects and has partnered with MADD and OSAID through the years.
