A Magical Night at Rick Chiarelli's Alcohol-Free Family New Year’s Eve 2013: Pirate and Princess Edition!
Our Pirate and Princess themed Alcohol-free Family New Year's Eve was a grand success. Thousands enjoyed a free evening of sleigh rides, talent shows, dancers, musicians, magicians, games, bouncy castle and harpists. Residents from all over the city followed the treasure map in tiaras and swash bucklers to where the “X marked the spot” on what the Ottawa Citizen dubbed one of this year’s biggest and best New Year’s Eve events!
Volunteers, who included my two nephews visiting all the way from Australia, greeted residents dressed as Pirates and Princesses with the appropriate “Arr’s” and curtseys of the characters. The children were in awe.
At 10pm, Russell Levia graced us with the traditional singing of “Auld Lang Syne” minutes before the musical fireworks show, a display so magical that it was suggested by some guests to rival the works of Disneyland! By far the biggest and best show in Ottawa on New Year’s Eve!
A galleon-sized thank you to all of our sponsors, without whom the event could not exist. And a castle-sized thank you to my family’s and volunteers’ hard work, without which the event could not go on! Our Alcohol-Free Family New Year’s Eve started as an anti-impaired driving project in Nepean twenty-some years ago and has since become a beloved tradition in Ottawa West. I hope to see you all continue the tradition with my family and me next year!
